Learn Place Value Counting With Cubes

Hey Kids,

Cubic method is one of the simplest ways to learn the place value of numbers. This is done by counting the cubes.

In the below image, one cube represents ‘ones’. 10 ‘ones’ is equal to one ‘tens’.

Place-Value

10 Ones = 1 Tens

Similarly, 10 ‘tens’ is equal to 1 ‘hundreds’.

Place-Value

10 Tens = 1 Hundreds

Example 1:

31 = 3 Tens + 1 Ones.

Place-Value

We have 3 tens and 1 ones which makes 31. This can be written as 3 x 10 + 1 x 1. Thus the place value of a number can be found easily, with this method, by counting the cubes. Let us see another example.

Example 2:

125 = 1 Hundred + 2 Tens + 5 Ones.

Place-Value

We have 1 hundred, 2 tens and 5 ones which makes 125. It can be written as 1 x 100 + 2 x 10 + 5 x 1. Try practicing with few more numbers using this cubic method to understand the concept better.

Counting cubes to find the place value is made easier here.
